:)

If anyone else is interested in the behaviour of variables, here's a short C
program

#include <stdio.h>

int main (int argc, char **argv, char **envv)
{
int i = 0;

while(envv[i]){
printf("env %d is %s\n", i+1, envv[i]);
i++;
}
printf("DISPLAY is set to %s\n", getenv("DISPLAY"));

return 0;
}

If one runs this with, for example

DISPLAY=foo ./program

one can see how the program views its environment.
