Have you recently upgrade your kernel, or part of the kernel (driver,
modules, etc)?

Just want to share my experience, I once also got this problem. I was
using 2.4.18, and I upgraded alsa driver (binary). All of sudden, I got
alot messages like yours. At that time, I had to reboot into console
mode, because X freezed the machine. My solution was to reinstall the
kernel, overwriting the alsa driver.
