Hello Alex:

Back again on the groove

Please look into your etc/X11/XF86Config file again and find Section "Device" Comment out or delete line Screen 0 as shown below:
Section "Device"

> ...

# Screen 0 #### Must be commented out or deleted !!!

> ...

EndSection

Done, see below

Except this you may need to comment out these settings at the end of the file /etc/X11/xdm/Xsetup:
-----------------------------------------------------
# The geometry of xconsole is set in the Xresource file.
#
# (
# exec setsid $xconsole -notify -nostdin -verbose -exitOnFail
# ) & echo $! > /var/run/xconsole.pid
exit 0
-----------------------------------------------------

Also done, but I can't make it start (Maybe I'm too dummy this month? :-P)

I was testing all as root, but i fake the command line always.

Here are my XF86Config and Xservers

*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*

As user or root, in the command promt I simply do:

user@earth@:~> startx

and only one server starts and only in vt07, with 8 bits.

Vt08 is black with a lonely white blinking cursor.

I've also tried (once again)

:0 local /usr/X11R6/bin/X :0 vt07 -depth 8
:1 local /usr/X11R6/bin/X :1 vt08 -depth 8

and nothing ....

I'm little bit confused. I remember, two o three yars ago that resolution and screen deep can be changed "on line" using CTRL+ALT and (+) and CTRL+ALT and (-), but these feature don't work any more

I'm using KDE, but tried with fvwm2 and ... nothing.

Any more ideas?

TIA
