Nothing hard and fast about that. As I said, I have 1GB physical RAM and
128MB swap space. Works fine.

I disagree. Technically, it must be possible for the system to dump
a core file (of your memory) to swap. So, in worst case you DO need a little
bit more swap space than the 128MB mentioned above....
