[opensuse-marketing] Our presence at FOSSCOMM 2016, Athens-Greece

Hello lizards, I wrote a short report at http://eiosifidis.blogspot.gr/2016/04/what-happened-at-fosscomm-2016.html We had 2 presentations. 1. "Why you should use Tumbleweed". Not enough audience since it was the first presentation after key note, not at the main room. A "mistake" was that we didn't use the word "openSUSE" at the title. Anyways, there were enough people and had plenty of questions about rolling, openQA, Tumbleweed. 2. "openSUSE Leaping ahead". This was between 2 very interested presentations, so there was audience where we could present what's new on Leap. We also had a booth with limited swag for the first day. People came and asked us about difference of Leap and Tumbleweed, about how GNU is the distro right after it's installed, where they can use Leap and where Tumbleweed. We had a demo laptop with Tumbleweed GNOME. Organizers said that there were about 800 people registered. Personally I could say I saw 200-300 different people. Maybe it's because the conference held at university. [opensuse-marketing] Argumente, die den Einsatz von openSuSE in missionskritischen Netzwerken rechtfertigen

Hallo all@SuSE, ich selbst verwende SuSE seit Version 4.3 in eigenen Netzwerken und Netzwerken, in denen mir als Systemadministrator die Entscheidung, oder vor allem die Verantwortung übertragen wird - auf Servern aller Art bzw. an allen Knotenpunkten, an denen es um IT-Sicherheit geht. Windows hat seine Berechtigung, aber es gibt in meinen Augen nur wenig, was Windows besser kann, als eine Linux-Box. Ich arbeite aktuell in einem Unternehmen, in dem bisher nur Windows eingesetzt wurde, vor allem, weil der externe Dienstleister nur Windows kann. Für diesen Dienstleister ist Linux "Wildwuchs" und vor allem deshalb riskant, "weil es keiner kontrollieren kann" ... ich hoffe, Sie kennen solche Argumente. Auf Grund der langjährigen Zusammenarbeit werden diese Argumente ernst genommen. Seit nunmehr 12 Monaten gibt es für den Dienstleister nichts mehr zu tun und nichts mehr zu verdienen: Storage Systeme, Router und Firewalls, NAS-Systeme ... all das kann Linux ... natürlich zu einem unschlagbaren Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis. Aber ich kämpfe hier allein. Im IT-fernen akademischen Umfeld. Vielleicht können Sie mir mit Erfahrung und Argumenten helfen, wie man Akademiker davon überzeugen kann, dass Linux (openSuSE) eine professionelle Lösung, und nicht nur ein System von Hackern, Spinnern und Freaks ist. Der Kostenfaktor ist hier leider von untergeordneter Bedeutung. Und bitte: MICH müssen Sie nicht überzeugen. Ich weis, was Linux ist und wo es überall eingesetzt wird. Aber ich bin kein Akademiker. Ich vermute, das spielt dabei eine Rolle. Hi all, A few weeks ago I finally got rid of my old wordpress blogs and replaced it with something more 2016, the Jekyll static site generator https://jekyllrb.com/ I've put together an openSUSE theme for Jekyll https://github.com/sysrich/beautiful-jekyll-opensuse For people who don't want to bother setting anything up, Jekyll can be used directly with github pages - The README covers how to fork the theme and set it up on minutes. Jekyll isn't quite as easy as wordpress to live with, but it is a lot more secure, a lot faster, and I'm using it as an opportunity to practice my 'git' skills, which are becoming increasingly important for contributing to lots of different parts of our project, not just developer ones. You can see the theme in action on http://rootco.de Credit to Dean Attali for the original theme, and our own awesome Cynthia & Zvesdana for their work on www.opensuse.org which was surprisingly easy to merge into this theme. [opensuse-marketing] Marketing materials for National IT program in Nepal

Hello, I am Aatish Neupane, a 4th Year Computer Engineering student at Kathmandu University, Nepal. Each year at Kathmandu University, we organize "IT Meet" program. It is an ICT event organized by Kathmandu University Computer Club (KUCC) and Department of Computer Science and Engineering (DoCSE) to encourage interaction between students from various institutions of Nepal and youths from various walks of life. Event includes talk programs, hackathons, hardware and software competitions, etc. Being the coordinator at Kathmandu University Open Source Community myself and an active user of openSUSE, I am thinking of promoting openSUSE at that program. The dates for the program is April 29-30. Although I am late to write this email, what kinds of help can I expect from the marketing team? If it is feasible, we would like to get promotional DVDs and marketing materials for that date. If we can get that by April 28, we could successfully promote openSUSE on this program. My estimates for promotional DVDs is about 200+. Please see the attached proposal for the program. Note that this proposal is the one we use to approach sponsors here.
