If done right, this time will only be payed once, for the initial creating the the _rpm.solv file. From then on it can be held uptodate much quicker, libzypp just needs to do the right magic (using the old solv file as base for the new one). Duncan now implemented that, and you shouldn't see long rpmdb2solv times as soon as you once have an _rpm.solv file already. Independend of that ...

... I agree with this. Would it help it rpmdb2solv prints out a percentage counter on stderr, if called with a special parameter? Could libzypp make use of that?
