YCP was worse before we introduced static type checking.

I agree with you that 'dynamically/loosely typed' languages are
bad -- if one approaches them the traditional way where testing
is considered optional bloat.

My experience with e.g. Ruby is, that dynamic typing is really
nice, provided(!) your testsuite has an almost 100% code coverage.
