My pc-bsd version 8, based on freebsd 8.0-REL-p2 does not want to use the radeonhd driver for my HD4650 card. I have tried the ati, radeon and radeonhd drivers. All i get is a black screen and the only thing that moves (very slowly) is the mouse pointer. No more keyboard interaction is possible, so no way to get into a console. The only driver that works is a Vesa driver, but with that one i am loosing 7 or 8 cm on both sides of my 23" SyncMaster...

I would *assume* that you should try with a newer kernel. This very much looks like a broken radeon kernel module, and there had been quite some changes lately.
