Originally the FIXME comments were C++ by intention (so that you stumble
over them during compilation) - due to lack of time they were never
completely resolved, and there are too many now to easily fix them.

I changed the compilation parameters so that most warnings are gone now
as well. Compilation is *almost* clean now.
