I'm not so sure where in the stack the reason for this lies.
This bug has been reported on the KDE-bugtracker and seems to be related to
Qt 4.5:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=187356
I see it with both radeonhd and radeon on my X1400 Mobility.
It happens regardless if effects are turned on or not.
It seems to be better, if QtCurve is used as widget-theme instead of Oxygen
