I'm trying to get the radeonhd driver working with the IGP on this
motherboard (it has an RS740 chipset). I'm using radeonhd and drm
from the git master 05-07-2009 on an 2.6.28 ubuntu kernel. Basically,
the behavior I'm getting when I start-up X is that the display powers
down and doesn't come back up unless I log in remotely and re-run X
with the VESA driver.
Examining the log, it appears that the driver bails when RHDMCIdleWait
times out during screen initialization in RHDScreenInit
Until recently I had some success with the other radeon driver, so I
dug down to try to identify any differences in how the drivers check
this MC idle state.
One difference appears to be that radeonhd uses the libpciaccess
routines to access this register, whereas radeon uses a memory-mapped
pointer. I don't know what the difference is, but if I apply the
attached patch (which uses RHDRegWrite/Read for the RS740 instead of
pci_device_cfg_write/read), I get working X display with OpenGL
acceleration.

motherboard (it has an RS740 chipset). I'm using radeonhd and drm
from the git master 05-07-2009 on an 2.6.28 ubuntu kernel. Basically,
the behavior I'm getting when I start-up X is that the display powers
down and doesn't come back up unless I log in remotely and re-run X
with the VESA driver.
Examining the log, it appears that the driver bails when RHDMCIdleWait
times out during screen initialization in RHDScreenInit
Until recently I had some success with the other radeon driver, so I
dug down to try to identify any differences in how the drivers check
this MC idle state.
One difference appears to be that radeonhd uses the libpciaccess
routines to access this register, whereas radeon uses a memory-mapped
pointer. I don't know what the difference is, but if I apply the
attached patch (which uses RHDRegWrite/Read for the RS740 instead of
pci_device_cfg_write/read), I get working X display with OpenGL
acceleration.
