There is a bug, so radeonhd driver misidentifies dvi2vga adapter as dvi digital
display.
Radeon hd 4850, radeonhd 1.2.5, DVI display connected to first dvi port
(closest to mainboard), and dvi2vga adapter sits on second dvi port, and no
displays connected to it.
When I installed radeonhd 1.2.5 (used fglrx previously), booted os and got
resolution - 1152x864 (My display native resolution - 1680x1050). 
those resolutions was available for choose in gnome's resolution change app:

   1024x768        
   800x600        
   640x480 

xrandr showed me this

then I unplugged DVI2VGA, and was able to change resolution to 1680x1050
