Although the dvi connection remains with a blank screen in its default state, I can get it to display by using xrandr to select a lower resolution. I made sure of this by physically disconnecting the vga cable. For example,
This configuration displays ok, as does the 1600x1200 one. However, the other higher resolution ones do not. In the 1400x1050 mode, the display flashes on and off, less than one second on and a couple of seconds off. In the 1920x1200 mode, the display remains blank.
Hello :) I don't want to hijack this thread - I think I have the same problem. If you think that not, please don't hit me, just create a new thread. My notebook (Sony VGN-SR39VN/S) has a Mobilitiy Radeon HD 3400 (M82), I installed gentoo amd64 (mostly stable) with Xorg-7.4, xserver-1.5.3, DRM-from-git, radeonhd-from-git) - got XV to work with drm+radeonhd from git - nice :) Very nice too: those xxxScaled-resolutions for the PANEL, when I connect an ext. screen - never seen on other driver - really cool!!!! Now the problem: I have a 24"-TFT (Benq FP241W) with native 1920x1200 res. When connecting through VGA (sub-d) everything's fine, but when I connect through my notebooks HDMI I have a problem. Ah - first: the TFT does only support HDMI-1.1, so that it's only possible to use until 1920x1080 :( , but it has a DVI-D-connector, so I use a HDMI-2-DVI-cable. With the fglrx-driver (in Ubuntu) it works with 1920x1200, but with radeonhd something strage happens: I get the full resolution, but the ext. screen goes on-and-off-and-on-and-off.... but only at 1920x1200, all lower resolutions until (incl.) 1680x1050 and 1600x1200 work perfectly. The notebook panel is not affected, /var/log/Xorg.0.log is flooded with EDID and Modeline infos each time the TFT goes on-and-off. Funny thing: the more movement on screen, the faster the screen goes off. If nothing moves, it may take 20 sec until the screen goes off (and on again), with a running video or scrolling in firefox it happens immediately. If I change the resolution some more times, the ext.screen stays black forever at 1920x1200, while the lower resolutions keep working. I have attached a truncated Xorg.0.log. The EDID/Modelines-thing at the end just goes on for another 400 KB... I'm new to radeon gfx, so if you drop me a line how to produce decent debug output, I'll be glad to supply it :) Thank you, Daniel -- PGP key @ http://pgpkeys.pca.dfn.de/pks/lookup?search=0xBB9D4887&op=get # gpg --recv-keys --keyserver hkp://subkeys.pgp.net 0xBB9D4887
