using EXA accel on my HD3870X2 (R680) there are artifacts while moving
windows. xv works flawless as far as i can see and I don't encounter any
other problem with the driver so far. At work I have a nearly identical
machine with a RV635 card instead of the R680 and don't encounter such
problems...

I made a small video to show you what happens:
http://www.nightwulf.org/radeonhd.avi

Are all the machines also running identical desktop environments?

It seems more like bug in the DE rather than driver, as it's very
unlikely a driver bug would leave such a clean image.
both use KDE. The one with R680 uses KDE 4.2 and RV635 on KDE 3.5.2.
But the problem doesn't occur as soon as I disable accel or switch kwin to
xrender accel mode.

My best guess is that this is another weird KDE 4 specific issue.

Anyone actually running KDE 4 with some insights?

Same issue here with a Radeon HD 3870 (RV670 ?), KDE 4.2.x
(desktop effects disabled) and latest radeonhd and drm from git
with DRI enabled.

I didn't experiment this problem when I was using radeonhd 1.2.4
(without the r6xx/r7xx acceleration support).

My other computer which is also running KDE 4.2.x with a NVIDIA
GPU does not have this issue.
