Hi, I tried out r6xx-r7xx-support branch of xf86-video-radeonhd in combination with the same branch of drm and r600_demo. All packages updated today at 2009-01-22 11:29:00 pm. Here is, what happened on my card: 1. AccelMethod "none" and Option "DRI" - X starts up - window movements are *very* slow.. you can watch how the window is painted - start of r600_demo "" gives me : *** ./r600_demo, version b5ecfac GetBufs: error 22 (Invalid argument) dmesg tells me this, after I got that error: Jan 22 23:31:52 nightwulf [drm:radeon_cp_buffers] *ERROR* Process 5037 trying to get 3 buffers (of 0 max) 2. AccelMethod "EXA" and Option "DRI" X starts up but gives me a grey screen with only artifacts of what should be shown. dmesg shows such lines then: Jan 22 23:15:53 nightwulf [drm] dwords:3696 Jan 22 23:15:53 nightwulf [drm] offset 0xe03b2000 Jan 22 23:15:53 nightwulf [drm] dwords:3696 Jan 22 23:15:53 nightwulf [drm] offset 0xe03c2000 Jan 22 23:15:53 nightwulf [drm] dwords:3696 Jan 22 23:15:53 nightwulf [drm] offset 0xe03d2000 Jan 22 23:15:53 nightwulf [drm] dwords:3696 Jan 22 23:15:53 nightwulf [drm] offset 0xe03e2000 Jan 22 23:15:53 nightwulf [drm] dwords:3680 repeating hundrets of times. Interesting are the lines telling which microcode gets loaded: Jan 22 23:12:51 nightwulf [drm] Setting GART location based on new memory map Jan 22 23:12:51 nightwulf [drm] Loading RV670 CP Microcode Jan 22 23:12:51 nightwulf [drm] Loading RV670 PFP Microcode Jan 22 23:12:51 nightwulf [drm] Resetting GPU Jan 22 23:12:51 nightwulf [drm] writeback test succeeded in 1 usecs My card has got a R680 chip...don't know, wether that makes a big difference. I hope my report helps a bit. If I can do any further testing/debugging for you, please shout.
