Dear supporters of the radeonhd-driver,
this is a section of my Xorg.0.log (more can be provided upon request):
<snip>

[34] 0 0 0x000003c0 - 0x000003df (0x20) IS[B]
(II) Setting vga for screen 0.
(**) RADEONHD(0): Depth 24, (--) framebuffer bpp 32
(**) RADEONHD(0): Selected ShadowFB.
(II) RADEONHD(0): Unknown card detected: 0x9610:0x1462:0x7501.
If - and only if - your card does not work or does not work
optimally
please contact radeonhd@xxxxxxxxxxxx to help rectify this.
Use the subject: 0x9610:0x1462:0x7501: <name of board>
and *please* describe the problems you are seeing
in your message.
(--) RADEONHD(0): Detected an RS780 on an unidentified card
(II) RADEONHD(0): Mapped IO @ 0xfdff0000 to 0xb7a94000 (size 0x00010000)
(II) RADEONHD(0): Getting BIOS copy from legacy VBIOS location
(II) RADEONHD(0): ATOM BIOS Rom:
SubsystemVendorID: 0x1002 SubsystemID: 0x1002
IOBaseAddress: 0xd000
Filename: 13B27722.025
BIOS Bootup Message:
113-B27722-025 RS780 DDR2 200e/500m
<snap>
Screen resolution 1600x1200x32
My problems:
a) (most pressing)
Although general 2D-Performance is quite OK (so la la), I have very bad
performance working with GIMP. Dragging around an enlarged image is
close to impossible. If I grab the image (say 10 MPix @ 100% scaling in
a medium sized window) with the middle mouse button and drag it around
in a circle, the image lags behind more than a whole lap. When I stop
moving the mouse, the image slowly concludes the remaining motion, while
being tiled together at the edges of the window (where parts of the
image reappear from "under" the edge of the window).
I have a direct comparison to a Matrox Millenium G550 in the same box.
[This Matrox Card (the basic design, not the specimen) is ages old.]
While the general performance of this card is quite poor at this high
resolution, dragging around an image in GIMP is nearly without lag and
does not show any tiling action going on at the edges.
So, the ATI-on-board chip (256 MB VRam) should have very much better
performance in this respect, if even a little Matrox thingy (32 MB VRam)
can beat it.
Image manipulation is bread and butter business, isn't it?
b) (I am probably not alone here)
3D acceleration does not (yet?) work. Sigh! but in the end much less
important than 2D.
Best regards, Andreas Schleth
