Hello,

- Added XVideo support.
- Added CP based 2D acceleration (R5xx and RS6xx).
- Added EXA render acceleration (R5xx and RS6xx).

Is it correct that the XVideo support also applies to the R5xx/RS6xx
cards only, with the R600+ cards still pending 3D support?

Yes.

I tested 1.2.3 with a HD 2400 card (R6xx) and xvideo did not seem to
be supported. I would expect this, except the "R5xx and RS6xx"
qualification is suspiciously missing in the ChangeLog relative to the
other entries, so I'm not sure whether it is supposed to work or not.

For this you will have to wait a little, still.

I would get an R5xx card and try it, but I have already blown money on
several cards (not ATI, just generally) in the past few months in the
search for the holy grail of usable desktop graphics on amd64/freebsd,
and I'd like to avoid getting another one without knowing it's
supported.

R5xx / RS690 (including RS740) are supported EXA/XAA/TexturedVideo and
3D wise. R5xx cards may be a little hard to come by.
With shadowFB I found video pretty fast even under 1920x1200 full screen
(not tear free though). Considering this you may just want to wait
a little longer until acceleration is also supported for your card.

Cheers,
Egbert.
