I'm be happy to test it, but I fail to understand how this plays with Alsa and 
kernel drivers. This driver executes as part of the xorg server, right? 

You mention that it fails when you switch VT. How did you expect it to work 
when switching VTs? AFAICT, the xorg server is outside the loop when on a 
non-X VT.
