There seems to be a problem with the modes list:
(II) RADEONHD(0): Modeline "1600x1200"x74.9 205.50 1600 1720 1893 2186 1200
1203 1207 1255 -hsync +vsync (94.0 kHz)
(II) RADEONHD(0): Modeline "1600x1200"x75.0 202.50 1600 1664 1856 2160 1200
1201 1204 1250 +hsync +vsync (93.8 kHz)
(II) RADEONHD(0): Modeline "1600x1200"x70.0 190.75 1600 1716 1889 2178 1200
1203 1207 1252 -hsync +vsync (87.6 kHz)
(II) RADEONHD(0): Modeline "1600x1200"x70.0 189.00 1600 1664 1856 2160 1200
1201 1204 1250 +hsync +vsync (87.5 kHz)
The second and fourth mode originate from a detailed timing section in an EDID
block:
(II) RADEONHD(0): Supported additional Video Mode:
(II) RADEONHD(0): clock: 202.5 MHz Image Size: 380 x 285 mm
(II) RADEONHD(0): h_active: 1600 h_sync: 1664 h_sync_end 1856 h_blank_end
2160 h_border: 0
(II) RADEONHD(0): v_active: 1200 v_sync: 1201 v_sync_end 1204 v_blanking:
1250 v_border: 0
(II) RADEONHD(0): Supported additional Video Mode:
(II) RADEONHD(0): clock: 189.0 MHz Image Size: 380 x 285 mm
(II) RADEONHD(0): h_active: 1600 h_sync: 1664 h_sync_end 1856 h_blank_end
2160 h_border: 0
(II) RADEONHD(0): v_active: 1200 v_sync: 1201 v_sync_end 1204 v_blanking:
1250 v_border: 0
while the 2nd and 3rd seem to be calculated from the 'supported future video
modes in the EDID block:
(II) RADEONHD(0): #0: hsize: 1600 vsize 1200 refresh: 75 vid: 20393
(II) RADEONHD(0): #1: hsize: 1600 vsize 1200 refresh: 70 vid: 19113

The former ones should have precedence over the latter ones. The latter ones
don't appear in the fglrx log at all.

I assume since a suboptimal mode is picked the mode is not optimal and needs
some intervention.
The modes list is provided by randr, thus this should not be a driver issue.
Your server is quite old, chances are high that this has been fixed already.
Please retry with a later server and reopen when the problem still exists.
Thanks!
