glxgears runs twice as fast on your box with a higher resolution, does an X1400 differ that much from an X1450?
Frankly speaking - I do not know.
In a later try (probably after a reboot) I indeed got about 900 fps windowed and 110 fps fullscreen. In that same test stellarium and neverball dropped to about 1.0 fps however. Maybe something got confused about sw/hw rendering?
stellarium (astro/stellarium) Starts and even works, but does awful flicker and continuous lost of sync (screen is instant jumping in different directions and shows lots of extra artifacts) Looks like similar to usual sync lost when go to text mode, but even worse.
I have no problems with stellarium, except that the desktop background isn't restored when the program is quit. It runs at about 15 (18max) fps here.
Do you have out-of-sync problem when return to text mode ? I have it often (> 50% times) - When I switch to text console LCD screen looks like exactly as out of sync CRT monitor.
I only tested it with my laptop panel, but I haven't seen anything strange when switching to/from text mode. I do notice that when starting stellarium some windows which are 'behind' the stellarium window are getting redrawn before the stellarium window is drawn.
Probably it is similar problem, but probably not.
Google-Earth started (under Linux emulation) but reported that works in software GL emulation mode. Probably miss some Linux libraries.
It dies on my box right after the splash screen with this message: "linux: pid xxxx (googleearth-bin): syscall ftruncate64 not implemented"
I'm running i386 7.0-release with linux 2.4.2 compatibility and linux_base-fc-4.
I have 8-CURRENT with compat.linux.osrelease=2.6.16 and linux_base-fc6-6_5. It works, but with soft GL.
Time to update my linux stuff :)
Try playing games/torcs for a while >:)
Tried. Hm, first time it just shows black window with no contents. Next time (after playing with some mesa-demos) it started as expected and even play with good speed.
I have this black window issue too sometimes, they might work again after some magic. Restarting the X server won't do the trick for me. One time I noticed that stellarium was still running as a background process, killing it fixed those black windows.
Several problems was observed with torcs:
1. sometimes wrong textures was shows (like part of sky on grass), probably game bug ? but I didn't observe it before. 2. when I returned to main menu - every cursor move makes screen to "shake" once (like in stellarium, but only once)
Same out of sync problem was observed with few mesa-demos - bounce and tunnel{,2}, others looks like to works or lack of DRI features.
