You'll need the latest drm bits for the latest r500-support in mesa.
Doesn't matter what kernel you build them against.  Most recent ones
should work fine.  Make sure you build the latest libdrm and kernel
modules.

Excellent.  I'm using the r500-support branch of mesa and roughly git
master for everything else.
