Why don't you use your distribution's package instead? At least as a
first step. Here's a few hints regarding the name of the package:

Debian: xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd

Ubuntu: xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd

Fedora: xorg-x11-drv-radeonhd

OpenSuse: xorg-x11-driver-video-radeonhd

I'm using OpenSuse 10.3. I didn't realize RadeonHD came in rpm. I see
Suse
doesn't include it as part of their distro. I see pbone.net offers
xorg-x11-driver-video-radeonhd-1.1.0_080327_1623f86-1.2.x86_64.rpm, but when
I try installing that it makes this cryptic demand for:
libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.7)(64bit) is needed by
xorg-x11-driver-video-radeonhd-1.1.0_080327_1623f86-1.2.x86_64
rpmlib(PayloadIsLzma) <= 4.4.2-1 is needed by
xorg-x11-driver-video-radeonhd-1.1.0_080327_1623f86-1.2.x86_64
My glibc is 2.6.1 and I can't find any rpmlib. I'm not sure how to proceed
from here.

BTW, I *do* have xorg-x11-driver-video-7.2-189.2 which includes:
/usr/lib64/xorg/modules/drivers/radeon_drv.la
/usr/lib64/xorg/modules/drivers/radeon_drv.so
/usr/lib64/xorg/modules/drivers/radeonold_drv.la
/usr/lib64/xorg/modules/drivers/radeonold_drv.so
/usr/lib64/xorg/modules/drivers/radeonrandr12_drv.la
/usr/lib64/xorg/modules/drivers/radeonrandr12_drv.so
but I take it that they are no good.

Your distribution (if not listed), should use a similar name.

Try to install your package, and change the driver in your xorg.conf
file, to "radeonhd".

Good luck!

I want to use RadeonHD as a driver in the absence of a driver that
can use acceleration, but the documentation explains very little. I
got the source code from
ftp://ftp.freedesktop.org/pub/individual/driver/, but the only
instructions I'm given is: $ ./autogen.sh
$ make
$ make install
First of all, autogen.sh is impossible, because there's no such file
with the code, so I tried ./configure. Make and make install doesn't
say very much either, like restarting X or Linux for anything to take
effect. When I rebooted, I didn't see any evidence of a new driver
taking effect. I should probably explain why I need RadeonHD. I have
an HD2600Pro. I downloaded the proprietary driver from ATI, but when
acceleration is on, the computer freezes when X starts. Some guys on
a public forum declared the problem to be a fault in the BIOS, and
there is no BIOS upgrade available, currently. They also recommended
I try RadeonHD, but the available documentation tells me very little.
