i think this patch has also broken something else.

since this commit i get the following situation:
a (1400x1050 i think) desktop (as it should be) but my panel only shows 
a part of that (640x480?) stretched to fullscreen.
if i move the mouse to the edges i can scroll on the desktop, so every 
point is accessible.
but that's definitively not good.

i attach xorg.log from the last run and am happy that radeon also 
supports r500 chips ^^
