I just found this in the FAQ section of the Asus website.

Select the correct motherboard and press the Search button. Then go the
page 4 where you find this:

Question:
"M2A-VM HDMI claimed to support dual display via its available onboard
VGA ports.
Does that mean I can use "any two" ports to form dual display platform?
Also, what types of dual display modes are supported by this motherboard
via its onboard VGA?"

Answer:
"Yes, M2A-VM HDMI can support dual display via the combination of "_*any
two digital output ports, or one digital and one analog port*_". You can
enable dual display for _*Clone (Both monitors show the same screen),*_
*_Span (expend your desktop among the two monitors)_*, or *_DualView
(Two independent display)_*, depending on your need.

The analogue ports are:
D-Sub
S-Video
AV
YPbPr

Digital ports are:
DVI
HDMI"

I think I need to try that under Windows just to make sure it is
correct. Unfortunately I have to install it before I can try... :(

Another interesting link is here:
http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/mainboard/roundup-690g-sep2k7-page2.html

It says that the Asus M2A-VM HDMI is different compared to other RS690
boards by allowing simultaneous digital output.

Just to clarify, the ports are independent. I have the same board.
I've used them independently with the radeon driver, however you have
to boot up with the HMDI port connected as I still haven't sorted out
all of the atom calls needed yet. We are sorting out the necessary
information now.

Although we may not interpret the SupportedDevice table correctly with
respect
to DFP2 (as this is the first device I've come accross which supports
DFP2 and
we have not received any information regarding this until yesterday).
Still what I'm seeing here after some more thorough investigation is that
indeed both outputs are driven by the LVTMA. They listen on different DDC
lines, the HDMI port currently only lights up when HDMI is connected at
boot time.
I'll dive into some more investigation using information I've just
received
from ATI. I hope that this information will soon be made public as the
information
on RS690 that has been published does not cover the outputs.
