A few quick answers :
- 5xx is looking easier than 6xx, so probably 5xx will arrive first for all the functions but there will be overlap, ie 6xx 2d might be happening at the same time as 5xx 3d
- video acceleration will have to happen after 3d -- might be possible to use ogl output but xv using 3d engine (different code from 3d acceleration) is probably the best use of time
- sequence of events looks like :
1. 2d acceleration using mmio
2. 2d acceleration using cp and drm (allows 3d work to start)
3. 3d acceleration building on existing r300 mesa support
4. Video acceleration
My guess is that we'll see an offset of a month or so between 5xx and 6xx documentation, so development will probably happen with a similar offset.
There are some problems with the current 300 mesa support but those should be fixable once the 3d docs come out.
The published schedule was "3d docs in 1Q08" and I think we're still on track for that.
Interesting. "3D docs" means "we have fully documented what we need to implement"? Video acceleration this year likely? I was told over and over that these gpu docs don't help r300 developement at all since the r3xx and r5xx+ are fundamentaly different, now I hear "we build up 3D on the r300 code"...?
