Since when you can write directly over a cd, without executing ATA commands?.
That would be a question for the more knowledgeable (since I'm just following instructions here), but since this is going through ide-cd which 'inherits' from ide.h and cdrom.h, why on earth would a userspace program need to issue raw ATA commands? This is the very thing drivers are there for - abstract away the hardware implementation differences and present a consistent API.
