OK. Writing a small file seems to work and the file is still there after
remounting the disc.

wait a while...
umount /mnt/cdrw:
nothing happens, no flashing leds on the drive
OK. Writing larger files fail.
dmesg:
end_request: I/O error, dev fd0, sector 0
That's wierd. Where did fd0 come from? Can you make this error message
re-appear? Does the floppy drive make a sound when it happens?
Don't bother about this, it was a mistake from me...
As a regular user I start k3b, the led on the drive starts to flash and
the umount command gets executed.
I mount the cdrw again and it's possible to copy the files from the
disk. After this I try to copy another gimp build with almost the same
result.
This time when I start k3b dmesg gives this:
hdc: cdrom_decode_status: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
hdc: cdrom_decode_status: error=0xb4Aborted Command LastFailedSense 0x0b
hdc: cdrom_decode_status: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
hdc: cdrom_decode_status: error=0xb4Aborted Command LastFailedSense 0x0b
hdc: cdrom_decode_status: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
hdc: cdrom_decode_status: error=0xb4Aborted Command LastFailedSense 0x0b
hdc: cdrom_decode_status: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
hdc: cdrom_decode_status: error=0xb4Aborted Command LastFailedSense 0x0b
hdc: DMA disabled
hdc: ide_intr: huh? expected NULL handler on exit
hdc: ATAPI reset complete
[...]
That's it. It seems that the files get copied, as long as I start up k3b
after the copy.
Did you verify that the files are correct? Ie remove the disc, mount it
again and check with md5sum.
I have checked with md5sum and they are ok..
Any ideas?
Not many, unfortunately. Does it make any difference if you use ide-scsi
emulation instead?
There are no problems at all using ide-scsi. Works both as root and
user. No problems copying files > 100 MB.
