packet-2.6.8 problems

Hello.

I have a 2Ghz Celeron/Asrock motherboard/HP Dvd writer dvd300n that has been working well packet writing CDs with a 2.6.7-rc2 kernel using Fedora Core 2. When I saw DVD+RW was supported with the latest patch I thought I'd upgrade...

I downloaded the full 2.6.8 kernel source and patched it up to 2.6.8.1 with no errors.
Applied the packet-2.6.8 patch, again no errors.
Built a new kernel, installed the nvidia drivers, all OK.
Patched the udftools-1.0.0b3 and rebuilt, all OK.

Inserted a known good CDRW and reformatted:
# cdrwtool -d /dev/hdc -q
Took a while but completed cleanly. Then tried:

# pktsetup /dev/pktcdvd0 /dev/hdc
open packet device: No such device or address

Nothing found in /var/log/messages to give any ideas.

I have the block 97 devices pktcdvd0 and pktcdvd1 in /dev but some of the recent traffic on this list has referred to a /dev/pktcdvd directory that is non-existant on my machine. I've hunted through the documentation but can't find any reference to this directory.

What am I missing here? Any suggestions welcomed.

Thanks,

Graham
