I had this problem before too posted under the subject "Problem with
AOpen 52/24/52 CD writer" dated March 2, 2003. Unfortunately up until
now, there is no response at all. Which cd writer are you using? I am
using AOpen.

I downloaded linux-2.4.20, applied packet-2.4.20-2.patch.bz2, configured
UDF support (including write) built and installed it (make dep;make
bzImage; make modules;make modules_install;make install).
modified /etc/modules.conf to include
alias block-major-97 pktcdvd

mknod /dev/pktcdvd0 97 0 mknod /dev/pktcdvd1 97 1
downloaded udftools-1.0.0b2.tar.gz, built and installed it

boot the kernel with hdc=ide-scsi

when I try cdrwtool -d /dev/scd0 -q

I get these messages on the screen and /var/log/messages

Apr 30 10:49:10 rsbaker kernel: hdc: empty DMA table?
Apr 30 10:49:10 rsbaker kernel: sr0: CDROM not ready. Make sure there
is a disc in the drive.

Has someone run into this one before?

Thanks,
Bob Baker
