I have successfully compiled and installed the appropriate patched kernel under SuSE 8.0/2.4.18 for my LG DVD/CD-RW combo drive. After getting error messages when trying to format CD-RWs with "cdrwtool -d /dev/sr0 -q", I managed to format a CD-RW with "cdrwtool -d /dev/sr0 -b fast", "cdrwtool -d /dev/sr0 -m <blocks>" and "cdrwtool -d /dev/sr0 -u <blocks>". However, now after installing the module with "modprobe pktcdvd" and setting up packet writing with "pksetup /dev/pktcdvd0 /dev/sr0", although it works fine in root mounting with "mount -t udf /dev/pktcdvd0 /dev/sr0" my main user cannot write at all, simply stating "Permission denied", I've set up a group called cdrw which has read and write access to the appropriate device and mount point, I even tried chowning the device and mount point to the user I want to use, still no joy though. Also added this line to fstab: "/dev/pktcdvd0 /media/cdrw udf rw,noauto, user 0", so that I don't have to issue the mount command above, but it seems when using this sync locks up and won't be killed or allow shutdown. Finally how, do I load the module and set up the cdrw automatically on boot up, would boot.local be ok? Many Thanks, Si.
