Hardware buffer strangeness

I've observed something strange with the way the hardware buffer size is
reported for my CD-RW drive. The buffer itself if 2MB and is reported as such
by the ide-cd driver, but with ide-scsi it is reported as 1000KB. I tried
hunting around the kernel source for an explanation but got lost in both ide
and scsi code-paths before I found anything. As far as I know this has never
caused me any trouble but it bothers me anyway. Any ideas/answers?
Thanks.
