Hi. I am having problem formatting CDRW (I have a NEC NR7700A drive) and wonder if anyone here have the same experience before. The problem occurs since I upgraded my kernel from 2.4.7 to 2.4.18 (with packet-2.4.19-pre2.patch). When I try to format a disc with the command: cdrwtool -d /dev/scd0 -q -t 4 The 'quick disc blank' seems to work fine. But when it says "Formatting track", the LED on the CD-writer turns off and no more response. Later I tried again with the '-m' option and here's the result: $ cdrwtool -d /dev/scd0 -t 4 -m 275616 using device /dev/scd0 setting speed to 4 formatting 275616 blocks 1206KB internal buffer setting write speed to 4x wait_cmd: Invalid argument Command failed: 04 17 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - sense 05.2c.00 format disc: Illegal seek This command returned after more than an hour, the LED on the writer is off at all time. Any help appreciated. --A. Lee
