it works for me in KDE on leap422. Alt-F2 #gcc opens the gcc man page in Konqueror. I haven't done anything special to make it work.
On XFCE, the sequence opens a terminal already displaying the man page. The ## sequence tries to, but the window closes to fast to see what it displays.
