I haven't seen a spec for the journald binary format. I haven't seen a commitment that journalctl from 2020 will have backward compatibility to read 2016 journald logs.
In my googling around I did see a API spec for the journal database. No, I don't think I specifically bookmarked it. I did mention scripting and yes there is an API for journal in scripting languages: https://pypi.python.org/pypi/pyjournalctl/ So they must have drawn on a published API. Lets see, googling for "systemd journal api" returne this at the top of the list https://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/sd-journal.html "APIs for submitting and querying log entries to and from the journal" As for compatible commitment, can you show me a similar statement for other binary media such as eBooks or the binary format used by the Linux link-loader? -- A: Yes. > Q: Are you sure? >> A: Because it reverses the logical flow of conversation. >>> Q: Why is top posting frowned upon? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
