Generic code is Syslinux that is capable of booting from logical partition, so I am not convinced this would have destroyed the ability to boot.
Yes. Mmmm. It would have marked partition 9 as bootable. The main Grub might be inaccessible (#4). I would have perhaps to restore the MBR from backup in another partition, and restore the boot mark. I think that the default should be not to touch the MBR if it exists (not new disk).
