What's up? How do I get VLC's codecs back?
Worked but with more trickery.
After I enabled the Packman reposityry (through Community repositories in yast), software management in yast still showed vlc as installed and I did not see an option to change vendor for it. (Please point it out to me if it is there).
Ok. For a single package, select that package, select the version tab in the bottom.right panel, and then select the version from the wanted repository; in this case the 64 bit version of vlc from packman. Another method. On top, select repositories tab. On left list panel, select the packman repo. On the right hand package list, on top there is a line that reads "switch system packages to the versions in this repository (...)". This does the vendor switch for the entire list. You may have to manually change back some individual packages to the opensuse version because the packman version is much older. Very few such exceptions, like Lazarus.
So I went for zypper. I found the -r option after some googling but -r packman did not work. Here is what finally got me there:
# zypper in -r ftp.gwdg.de-suse vlc
At first this too did not work, saying vlc is installed from a different vendor. I removed vlc (with zypper) and tried the same command again. It asked me to pick a "solution" and I picked one where it changed vendor for a few existing packages.
And now vlc is working fine! Thanks to everyone for the support.
