I wonder if there is a file viewer/browser that displays in the left pane the list of files in a directory, and in the right a quick view of the highlighted PDF file.
I tried Dolphin. Quick view does nothing. Preview is active on right pane, does nothing.
If Dolphin does nothing then it probably needs configuring. Go to Configure Dolphin... -> General -> Previews and check Postscript, PDF and DVI files. Also, under the Behaviour tab above, you might want to check Show Tooltips, as the large tooltip overlays may provide a bigger
preview than what you get in your preview pane, depending on its size.
I had thought that this PDF thumbnail functionality relied upon a thumbnail plugin like that for ODF files, but I can't see one installed
so I assume it comes by default in a regular KDE installation.

Yes, was going to suggest the same thing. I use Dolphin to get useable previews of PDF files all the time. There are settings that control which files generate previews. -- Sent from my Android phone with K-9 Mail.
