as long as you can change it very easily, why?
Because I want to contribute. Because I believe that we have the wrong default. Because my list of "things to change" when I install openSUSE is growing longer and longer due to other people making wild changes without really considering the target audience.
target audience is what?
A very good question, the answer depends on who you ask.
the defaults fits perfectly my needs, as did the other system, by the way, but I don't expect things to last forever.
Since around 12.x, my list of things to customize has been growing longer and longer, for desktop and server installs both. The default used to be a sound compromise, but I think we've lost track of our target audience.
I began computer with scientific calculators and use PC nearly since the beginning (in fact Personal Computers before the IBM PC), so I learned to use 8" floppies, 5" floppies, 3" floppies, zyps, cd's... up to spinning Hard drives, usb sticks and ssd.
Yes, been there, done that. First programmable calculator HP25C, followed by writing COMAL on an RC7000 with 32k core memory, paper-punch and teletype: (aka Data General Nova 1200): http://datamuseum.dk/wiki/RC/RC7000. The toggle-switches on the front were for boot-strapping it. That was in the late 70s. Thanks for the trip down memory lane :-)
it's life jdd NB: I still have working HP-41C :-)
The HP25C is long gone, I switched to HP15C - still use one every day. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (2.6°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - your free DNS host, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
