It seems the Opensuse packages are all several releases behind, stuck at version 4.3.7 which is so old that even the LibreOffice site doesn't acknowledge its existence any more.
Does anyone have experience with the packages on the LO site for Version 5.0.4?
Well, first you download the whole stuff as tar balls, then you unpack those tar-balls to get to the rpms inside, then you install the rpms.

Absolutely correct. The only advice I will add here is to copy ALL the rpms into a single directory and then apply 'rpm -Uvh *.rpm' to this directory -- this avoids possible problem of having one rpm not finding a dependency (which is sitting in the rpms in another directory). Also, this will detect that there is one rpm which is duplicated (but does have a different time stamp and probably a few more/less bytes) -- the one dealing with the dictionary.
