BTRFS, the default openSUSE filesystem, is not traditional, many times more demanding of space, and too new for this user to even sample. Even if I was a BTRFS user, I wouldn't put it on a stick. By sticking with EXTx filesystems, a 16G stick should be abundantly more than ample for a few weeks of sampling with the more svelte DEs like Fluxbox, IceWM, Enlightenment, LXDE or XFCE.
Btrfs is perhaps demanding of space when it comes to how it allocates/deallocates chunks, when data and metadata are not mixed. In this case with a small file system there is some higher chance of a nearly full file system experiencing ENOSPC, since right now Btrfs kernel code doesn't deallocate chunks unless they're completely empty. Otherwise it takes a balance (with or without a 'usage' filter) to compel the deallocation. But in mixed mode, it's no different then other file systems. And with compression enabled, it's quite a bit more space efficient than other file systems. -- Chris Murphy -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
