What is your hardware, specially your display hardware, and did you try to add nomodeset as a parameter on the boot command?
My hardware is a E-machine with an AMD Athlon II 160u processor and a Compaq FP745A monitor. For installation I used the DVD method, as I do the last twenty years..
That omits the important info, the gfxchip indentification info from the line(s) including the string VGA on running the lspci command, which you can get by booting the installation media and switching to vtty2. It also omits an answer to the second question. Does the failsafe Grub menu selection not help either? -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
