Sigh. Thunderbird hiccup, it sent the mail twice. Not my doing. Have NEVER seen Thunderbird do this. So you can come up with another excuse which doesn't involve innocent Thunderbird :-) . That you have never seen it doing this, doesn't mean anything. Perhaps it triggers with some software combination or external event. I have seen it a few times. For some reason, it complains that it can not save the email to the sent folder, asks what to do, I press "cancel", and the end results is two emails with the exact same timestamp and different message-id.

That's Thunderbird connecting twice the same second to my postfix smtp server.

Ah well, why didn't you say that you have some fang-dangled setup which is causing your problem but blaming it on Thunderbird? :-) I don't have no such fang-dangled setup and therefore have NEVER experienced TB sending mail out twice.
