After a new OS install on my laptop I wanted to sync firefox, as I always did, but I could not add the new browser the normal way. Sadly I had to open an account. Ok, I did. And then firefox was so polite to delete all my settings and bookmarks in my main computer and replace them with the default values of the new install (lucky me that I'm a paranoid backupper).
I use sync on several computers/operating systems, with both Firefox and Seamonkey. That problem never occurred for me. The only issue I came across is the new sync isn't compatible with Seamonkey, so I had to install an older version of FF, sync it and then update to the current version, which will then work with the old sync.
With the old sync I was happy, too. It worked just as it should. Problem is that the old syncing will be deactivated relatively soon. And the new one consequently syncs the wrong way. Also, in the old sync one could choose the syncing direction. But this option does not exist anymore. So what I am looking for is a way to completely get rid of the new sync, as obviously unsubscribe to the service and deleting the account was not enough. To get rid of the message line that appears every time I start ff, I must first click on "settings" and then close the appearing settings window. Very annoying. I guess, there is some about:config line.
