use "e" insetead of "c" ## for "edit"

find the line which has kernel params similar to the old grub and add a "3" to the end, no quotes.

Patrick, Thank you. It didn't work, but I've noted your instructions for future use. I suppose installing all the wrong graphics kernel modules has mucked up the kernel. I'm now downloading the installation DVD to burn on my laptop and hopefully that will allow me to run YaST on the installed system.
