Before I recently bought cars with Navigation systems (GPS) already built-in I had (still have) a GARMIN unit. Updating the maps only takes a very short time (~10 minutes) - and I don't have the speed of the broadband available at the Internet Cafes.
my tomtom took 5 hours for 2Gb dl :-(
Well, the max speed on ADSL2+ that I can obtain from being some 5km away from the telephone exchange is ~490KB/sec - and it takes me ~3 1/4 hours to download the openSUSE DVD (4.3GB). So, if it takes you 5 hours to download 2GB of update for your TomTom then you should definitely go and find an Internet Cafe - or a local library :-) .
