I now have two identical DVD Burners internally mounted for which I have never installed firmware in Win7 or linux. But they both now work in win7, pclinuxos, and have worked in previous versions of opensuse.
Now, one is recognized and works to burn discs, while the other doesn't using either k3b or brassero in opensuse 12.3.
Thanks, Mark
Hi Mark, Thank you for your clarifications and for supplying the additional information. Given everything you've written here, if I were in your position, I would temporarily drop the configuration down to one drive and data cable installed ... the last pair known to be working properly under openSUSE 12.3 ... a) to see if /dev/sr0 suddenly 'wakes up' and b) to confirm that the drive operates correctly on it's own. I would then move that drive and cable to the other physical position and test it again. If no problems were found, I would then substitute in the other drive and cable and repeat both test again (i.e. in both physical positions) -- just to definitively rule out a marginal cable or poorly seated cable/connector. This would also have the effect of establishing a solid troubleshooting baseline; one where you have confirmed that the identical drives and cables are, in fact, behaving identically. I would then reinstall the second drive and test again. If the problem resurfaced, I would then confidently begin troubleshooting configuration and software. hth & regards, Carl -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
