Moving /boot files among partitions impacts the bootloader. Without reconfiguring the bootloader before rebooting, I wouldn't expect further booting without a repair boot first. :-p
In openSUSE running mkinitrd implicitly updates bootloader and its configuration.
That's news to me. Have you tested this?
At the very least, you would have to updte /etc/grub.conf for grub1, and who knows what for grub2.
I missed the fact that you will need to change "bootloader location" if it was /boot before. Otherwise, grub2-install will automatically pick new /boot. For grub legacy I'm not sure at which point root is set in menu.lst (by YaST2 or by update-bootloader). -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.19 (GNU/Linux) iEYEARECAAYFAlGIbcAACgkQR6LMutpd94xogACfYN6DX97r+rVRK59j4So+4KpK 1SsAnRlnye2sPO5GYXxiIs1ov5HLyFjX =+FqK -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- N▀╖╡ФЛr╦⌡yИ ┼Z)z{.╠О╝·к⌡╠йБmЙ)z{.╠Й+│:╒{Zrшaz▄'z╥╕j)h╔ИЛ╨г╬ё ч╝┼^·к╛z┼Ю
