Things have turned pretty bad. I thought I had one error on the disk, but after I overwrote the entire partition smarctl reported 175 remapped sectors. I redid, and now have 285. Hopefully it is only one partitition.
I have ordered a new hardisk...
It is a seagate ST9500323AS (laptop) with only 2876 hours of use, and I have treated it very carefully, no hits, always used on a table. :-/
I guess it still under warranty then. At least you'll get a replacement?
I think it was you who asked about a warning I'm getting. I don't have access to my archive, so I'll ask :-) This gets written to my log every now and then (text wrapped - thunderbird thing):
Jan 11 21:10:35 Minas-Anor dbus-daemon[913]: **** Refreshing ATA SMART data for /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1f.2/host0/target0:0:0/0:0:0:0/block/sda

Jan 11 21:10:35 Minas-Anor dbus-daemon[913]: **** EMITTING CHANGED for /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1f.2/host0/target0:0:0/0:0:0:0/block/sda
When that happens, I get a pop-up warning in gnome3, at the bottom of the screen, saying that I have problems in one disk, and asks if I want to examine (which pops a useless disk manager). What I do not know is what exactly is it warning about, because smartctl says none.: (again watch the wrapping, I can't help it)

That is not the real problem with the disk, the problem is the read/write errors and incresing number of remapped sectors... What do I care if one day the temperature was to high one day? I can do nothing about that now. But every now and then I get that nuisance of pop-up. I wish I could kill that, I prefer running the smartd daemon.
