It was necessary to add the "sound card" in Yast. However, that part of it is quite simple. I then had to add pavucontrol, as mentioned earlier, which enabled me to select the headset for the various applications. I don't see any desktop settings for a sound device.
I am with Adam on this. I use a USB headset all the time and all I do is plug it in. It is "hot" detected and configured. I then change the app that is producing sound to use the headset either in pavucontrol or in kmix (right click and move to device in the context menu - more hidden that pavucontrol). You should not need Yast for a USB sound device.
Seconded. You definitely do not need to configure a USB headset in YaST on openSUSE anymore... unless you have specific customization needs. For general use... as stated, plug it in, and use pavucontrol to set application/device.
