Interesting... but on the end, they do not find the affected file directly, but by brute force: [Step 4] Try then to find the affected file [3]: tar -cO /mydir | cat >/dev/nul Ie, read all the files until it finds an error, or not. It will tell which file, or in a region where there are no files. I think I will then do my backup, overwrite, restore plan.
